The other day I went to my local library to pick up an audio I had put on hold.  As the librarian checked my items out, he pointed at one, looked at me, and raised his eyebrows.  At first I thought it was the subject matter he was silently remarking on (my usual hippie, spiritual stuff).  But, nope.  What he was curious about was the fact that I was picking up cassette tapes.

Yes folks, I still listen to cassette tapes. There, I said it.

The librarian laughed and said, “Okay, well next week those 8 tracks you ordered will be here.”  Ha!

Segue & Confession: I recently turned the big 4-0. And I’m loving it! (Except when I recently filled out a survey and had to check the “40-44” box. That was kinda weird).  I’m loving it, but in the fertility world, people are super hung up on age.

We are terrorized into thinking 35 is some magical age when women’s bodies give up.

I’m not a physician, but I know the statistics.

I know the likelihood of conception reduces as we age. I just happen to think that’s bogus.  YES, I really think that!

do you really think like that

Here’s the thing, I know that I can get super hippie and go to the rainbows-and-unicorns place, but I am also a researcher and very left-brained at times.  I like facts. And, here’s a fact: You are what you think.  Literally.

Thoughts affect your body. It’s that simple.

Don’t believe me?  I could go on forever, but here’s a quick study to support what I’m saying.  Ellen Langer, a Harvard researcher and Yale graduate, conducted an experiment wherein she invited a group of elderly men to re-live their youth.  She placed them in a retreat setting where they were inundated with the music, the clothes, the cars, the food, etc. that was all present when they were decades younger.  They were invited to BE like they were in their 20s.

At the end of that study, they had physiologically reversed their age. They didn’t just cease aging, they reversed it!

Yeah.  Huge finding.  Their skin became thicker, eye sight improved, hearing improved, etc. etc.  They started becoming what they thought: “I am 20 years old again.”  And this study has been replicated many, many times.

You are what you think.  I don’t really think I’m younger than 40, but I do get super excited (like a kid!) at the prospect of visiting Disney, for example. And I know that affects both my body and my environment.  There’s too much evidence to think otherwise.

This doesn’t just apply to those “advanced maternal age peeps out there” OR just peeps trying to be parents.  But, for those trying to be parents, I’m just going to plant some ideas in your mind and see if they grow.

  • You are going to be a parent, and it will be easy.
  • You are going to be ridiculously happy.
  • You will get to hold your baby in your arms.

And if you want to go to the next level, change the sentences up to the present tense:

  • You are a parent, and it came easily.
  • You are ridiculously happy.
  • You get to hold your baby in your arms and stare in those gorgeous eyes every day.

Miracles to you,

P.S. My own thoughts are “Forty is amazing, you are so young, you are super healthy, you are incredibly happy.”  If you need a little help with thinking this way, don’t forget to download your free meditation.  And if you know of someone who could benefit, pay it forward, man!
