MHFP 034: Goddess Mama Fertility Yoga

Susan Singer

As a yoga teacher for over ten years, Susan’s passion to guide students to connect mind, body, and spirit took a turn as she began her own fertility journey. “I know what it is like to lose control, to be lost and overwhelmed, to be upset with yourself and your body and start looking for answers outside. I can tell you from experience, letting go of your true self during this time is not the answer.
Wherever you are on your journey to motherhood, YOU are the only one that intuitively knows what’s best for you and your womb. Yoga for Fertility has been one of the most complementary methods to infertility.”

Susan passionately teaches Fertility Yoga, host of the Goddess Momma Fertility Podcast, and collaborates with Fertility and Yoga brands globally to build more awareness in the alternative fertility community.

She lives in Miami, Fl with her husband, David and two German Shepherds, Patton & Sherman.

In this episode, I get to speak with Susan about her personal fertility journey and how she uses yoga to guide her mind, body, and spirit toward motherhood.  She also shares about her work with clients, the top three things peeps should now about yoga, and a ton more.  I could literally talk with Susan forever about everything that yoga is.  And trust me, it’s so much more than moving your body.

MHFP 033: Tune Down the Noise

I talk a lot about preparing the body for optimal fertility by virtue of reducing stress, taking care of yourself, etc.  There’s a fairly large component missing there, because truly moving toward fertility means growing from the adversity inherent in the process.

Think about it.  When you begin to truly live from a place of peace, your body responds in kind.  Too much research to ignore there.  What you choose to do with adversity is based on who you are inside.  And only when you quiet down the noise going on around and inside you will you get in touch with who you really are.

Now, I should note when I started the process of quieting down, the quietness brought out some shit that I didn’t want to quite look at.  Here’s a list.  Ready for my vulnerability?  Here goes: I expected my husband to be different than who he was.  I expected everyone to know what was going on in my mind and respond sensitively.  I expected others to take my tongue lashings with grace.  I expected perfection from myself.  I doubled the tongue lashings to myself, because I expected that to be motivating.  In fact, I felt guilty if I didn’t kick my own ass daily.

So what did I do about all of that noise?  Listen in to find out!

MHFP 031: Bend Your Attitude

This episode is inspired by a song I love by Brandi Carlile called “Before It Breaks.”  The full lyric inspiring this episode is “Let it bend before it breaks,” and I think this is a perfect way to describe the healthiest way to move through family-building struggles.

We tend to get stuck in a certain way, path, or pattern of moving through challenging times, and this episode is about creating flexibility.  This effectively helps you “bend” through adversity, rather than stiffly moving through and risking ultimately breaking.

MHFP 030: Marriage Stuff When Dealing with Infertility

There is nothing quite like a life crisis to bring out the best or the worst in a marriage.  If you’re like a lot of people dealing with infertility, you have experienced some rough moments in your marriage.  It’s a ton of stress after all!

In this episode, I interview a VIP in my life:  My husband, Ted!  We struggled a lot through infertility and figured out a way to make it through stronger than we thought possible.  Ted shares his insights around dealing with infertility (and – let’s face it – dealing with ME).

MHFP 029: Fear Soup (AKA Dealing with Anxiety)

The inspiration for this episode came when I was speaking with a couple of friends about the news and how I can’t handle watching the news, because it makes me so anxious and sad.  I said something to the effect of sitting in Fear Soup, because literally my brain (and yours!) emits a host of chemicals that signal fear.  And as we continue to think the fear thoughts, the brain sends out more fear chemicals.  Voila!  Fear Soup.

So, today I am going to be talking about how to handle the anxiety part of Fear Soup (the other part is depression).  I talk about several tips on handling both acute and chronic anxiety.

MHFP 028: No Mud, No Lotus

I used to think I would be stuck in the muck and mud of infertility forever. I used to think the sadness, anxiety, and childlessness would eat me alive. Do you ever feel this way? Does it ever feel like there’s actually a light at the end of the tunnel?

The idea behind No Mud, No Lotus came from a book I read on transforming suffering. It’s an empowering concept where you take all of the crap you’re dealing with and use it for something good.  Without the mud, there would be no lotus.

I know, I know – it can seem like a fluffy unicorn way of thinking, right? Though I don’t see anything inherently wrong with that type of thinking, it is a serious stretch to think that way when you’re in such a dark place.

However, if you have any interest in making your days a little less dark, your worries a little less needling, your sadness a little less heavy, and your hope the tiniest bit brighter PLEASE consider listening to this episode.

MHFP 027: Be the Bamboo

Part of dealing with #infertility is that we often feel slapped in the face with the newest bout of bad news. The next thing you know, you’re a sobbing heap on the floor somewhere. Or maybe that was just me?

Be the Bamboo is a mindset of sorts in dealing with those moments of unimaginable grief and loss.

In this episode of #mhfp, we talk about 4 ways you can move through difficult times (infertility or otherwise) with grace, ease, and ultimate self-compassion. As I began healing my spirit from the ravishes of infertility, I used this tool frequently. In combination with #meditation, #peace became a frequent visitor in my life (even before I became a mom). How many struggling with infertility can say THAT?

So what the heck is the reference to bamboo, anyway? Listen in to find out!

MHFP 026: Shrinking IF

Okay, so I’m asking you to be honest with yourself.  Have you made infertility your life?  Do you miss who you used to be?  Ever think, “Oh my god, I used to be FUN!  What happened to me?  I don’t even know who I am anymore!”?

If any of the above resonates with you, then this episode is a must!  Here is what we cover: (more…)

MHFP 025: Why Meditation is Important for Your Fertility

Think meditation is just a bunch of sitting down chanting Om? Well, there’s that, but there’s So. Much. More. AND, I’m making a call that it’s super important for your fertility.

This episode of the Miracles Happen Fertility Podcast covers the top four reasons why I’m calling meditation not only useful for your fertility but necessary. Ever want to feel more chill, less anxious, more in control, and directly impact your fertility? Then listen in for how meditation can do this for you.

Feel like meditation is frustrating and just not in the cards for you? I felt that way too!! I went into it kicking and screaming, but after a while I began to feel the benefits and realized, holy shit! Why doesn’t everyone do this?

In this episode:

MHFP 024: Fall Down 7 Times, Get Up 8

Fertility struggles is a series of falling down, isn’t it? Every time you get your period, have a failed treatment cycle, lose a friendship, or screw up at work because you’re too stuck in your head, it’s like falling down. Hard.

This episode of the Miracles Happen Fertility Podcast covers how the hell to get back up again. It’s based on a Japanese proverb “Fall Down 7 Times, Get up 8.”

But really, no matter how many times you fall, you can get back up. No matter how downtrodden, depressed, anxious, and no matter how long you are down, you can get back up.

In this episode:

MHFP 023: Letting Go Doesn’t Mean Giving Up

When hearing “You just need to let go” most people think “But that means I’m giving up!” I mean, shoot – just feel how that feels in your body. The dread, the fear, and if you’re anything like me, the stubbornness of not wanting to let go! Ha!

This episode is all about how letting go is NOT the same thing as giving up on your dreams. In fact one of the best ways to manifest your dreams is to let go of the outcome while staying mindful and inspired during the process.

It’s scary. AND you can do scary things. If you’ve gone through infertility, you’ve already proven this. And if you have struggles trusting yourself, head back to Episode 22, where we talk about just that.

So, how to practice letting go? Well, Lucky You, that’s what this episode is about!

In this episode we talk about:

MHFP 021: The Orange Theory

I was driving around town recently when I saw a sign “Orange Theory.”  I didn’t know what it was (a gym), but I was instantly reminded of a metaphor that Dr. Wayne Dyer used to use in his talks about an orange.  It inspires me every time I hear it, so I decided to create an episode around it.

Things we talk about in this episode:

MHFP 019: “Gratitude-ing”

One of the most powerful things you can do in your fertility journey (or any journey that’s hard!) is to practice gratitude.  I once heard it referred to as “gratitude-ing” from a client and thought it was a lovely new verb.

Things we talk about in this episode:

MHFP 018: The Power of Visualization

You’ve probably heard about Visualization or some form of thinking about the thing you’d like in your life.  I believe it’s totally powerful, but perhaps not because of the actual picture you hold in your mind.  Listen in to find out what is MORE important than your mental picture when using visualization.

Things we talk about in this episode:

MHFP 017: What to Do When Feeling Broken

Inspired by the Japanese pottery art of Kintsugi, today’s episode focuses on highlighting the brokenness that infertility brings and potentially using it for something beautiful.

Things we talk about in this episode:

In this New Year, I wish you every miracle you have ever hoped for.  Even better, I wish that you begin to know deep inside that miracles are on their way to you.  When you get in that headspace, you begin to act as if your dream is already reality.  And in fact, it is.  But, how to get there?

Things we talk about in this episode:

MHFP 014: The Overthinking Cure

A HUGE thing I see with infertility is serious overthinking.  It makes sense, of course, when you just want a friggin’ baby already!   In this episode, learn how to stop the crazy-making in order to help make way for baby.

Things we talk about in this episode:
